What Getting Your Card Declined Means

It is embarrassing to have your credit card declined. It is also an indication of a serious problem. A survey taken by CompareCards has shown that 12 percent of people have had a card declined within the past year.

Forty percent of people stated that they had a credit card declined because it had reached the maximum limit. Thirty percent of people stated that their debit card was declined because they did not have any funds in their account. Fortunately, there are things that you can do in order to avoid both of these situations.

Thomas Donaldson is a credit card specialist who works for Compare Cards. He stated that if your card is declined because you do not have any funds in your account, then you probably do not have overdraft protection. This may be a good thing because if you overdraw your account, then you will have to pay fees. Before you make a purchase, you will need to make sure that you have enough funds to cover the payment.

In order to avoid getting your credit card declined, you will need to keep your account in good standing. If you are making payments late, then you may get transactions declined. Not making payments at all is even worse. Try to make your payment on or before the due date in order to ensure that your card is not declined.

Keep in mind that there are other reasons that your credit card can get declined. For example, if the credit card or bank suspects fraud, then they will shut your credit card down. The purpose of this is to prevent someone from making an unauthorized purchase.

Your credit card company may also decline a purchase if it seems suspicious. You can clear up a misunderstanding by calling the credit card company.
