The Koch brothers network of companies despised by those on the Left and often coddled by those on the Right has declared that they will spend approximately $400 million on the mid-term election cycle.
They already spent $20 million to help sell the GOP tax law to the American people according to CNBC. However, that was not enough for the Koch brothers as they will go forward with much more massive spending during the mid-term election cycle.
These individuals are among the wealthiest people on the planet, and that means they are able to throw around figures like this with very little concern. In fact, they often receive a nice return on investment as it were from their donations. They get back laws like the tax cut, and that helps them save a lot more money than they ever put into these political races in the first place. When you look at it that way, this is more of an investment than an expense.
It is believed that the strategy from the Koch brothers is to try to sell the American people on the benefits that they can get from the tax reform law. They are going to start hyping that up in television ads in the next few weeks as some of the benefits of the plan start to get implemented. Along with that, they are going to promote how different large corporations have given back some money from their tax break in the form of bonus checks to their employees. Those are the kind of things that could play well with some people who have seen a boost in their paycheck.
Interestingly, the Koch brothers are not just about selling tax reform, but they want to pitch a few other policy priorities as well. Namely, they would like to see some things done in regards to prison reform and even immigration reform. They are not necessarily a one-dimensional political force at the end of the day. That is something worth noting when you think about who they are.
It is up to each individual to form their own opinions about what the Koch brothers are to them. There are definitely some who will consider them vile and not worthy of consideration, but they are a mixed bag to a lot of other people. They have policies that can be seen as liberal at times, but most of the time they are viewed from a conservative lens.
